MELVIN BREEDEN OBITUARY

Went home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

He was born on January 27, 1951, to the late Sallie and Jessie Breeden of Earlysville. Melvin attended public schools in Albemarle County. In 1968, Melvin was employed by the Finance Department part-time while attending his senior year at Albemarle High School. He attended the University of Virginia on a part-time basis completing courses in Accounting, Business Law, and Business Administration. Appointed Director of Finance July 1984, he was responsible for all county tax assessments and collections, purchasing, payroll and accounting functions. He was the first to possess a computer in the county. Melvin retired after 39 years of service from his only job.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, together for 26 years they shared many tropical vacations, rides in the country listening to music and love for each other. If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. Melvin was the youngest brother and survived by Audrey, Randolph (Pete) and Wilbert Breeden and their families. Melvin is survived by his daughters, Crystal Jan Breeden (Daniel) and Sarah Drumheller (Jeremy) and their families of Charlottesville.

Melvin, a lifetime member of Elks 389 loved his Elk's family, golfing friends, poker buddies, and dear friend, Bill Myers. Melvin, Billy and the late Jack Marshall would go to breakfast and arrive home after 3 p.m. or longer depending on their adventure. The 3 of them built a race car and Melvin later purchased another '67 Nova like he had in high school they restored.

Melvin was the most generous, kindest man who was gentle but had a firm way of working with people, move to the issue at hand and offer practical solutions.

Special thanks to my family Tracy and Eddie Shiflett who visited often and shared this journey with us. The 2nd floor nurses and Doctors at Sentara for your love, compassion, care, and VIP service.

At Melvin's request there will not be a formal service but a Celebration of Life at the Elk's Lodge 389 on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 2 until 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Published by Daily Progress from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30, 2022.
